Lopesan

LOPESAN is a Canarian group of companies, focusing mainly on the sectors of tourism, construction and agriculture. At present the group (leaded by Eustasio López) is the most important touristic company of the Canary Islands and among Spain's ten major companies.

History

The parent company of the group, Hijos de Francisco López Sánchez S.L., was founded in 1972. Nowadays the industrial part of the company consists of enterprises which cover all fields of the primary sector (agriculture), the secondary sector (construction) and the tertiary sector (touristic and hotel services, shopping centres, etc.) and it has consolidated its position as one of the most modern and innovative companies of the archipelago, having an important share of building contracts and actively participating in projects of great social relevance.

In 1991 Lopesan purchases the Altamarena apartments in Fuerteventura and funds the enterprise Lopesan Touristik, S.A. in 1995. One year later Lopesan continues investing in tourism business by buying the Canarian Creativ Hotel group, consisting of the hotels Buenaventura and Catarina in Playa del Inglés. The corporation Lopesan Hotels & Resorts is born.

In 1999 the process initiated three years before is continued by acquiring the better part of the capital of the German group IFA Hotels & Touristik, quoted on the stock exchanges of Frankfurt and Düsseldorf. Lopesan gains international presence by incorporating, in addition to the IFA hotels in Gran Canaria, the hotels of the IFA brand in Germany, Austria and the Dominican Republic.

In 2000 the hotel Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort, Spa & Casino, with more than 2.000 beds, opens in the Meloneras area. In the following nine years, two more 5 star hotels are built: Lopesan Villa del Conde Resort in 2004 and Lopesan Baobab Resort in 2009. Thus, Lopesan Hotel Group and Meloneras, the most exclusive area in the south of Gran Canaria, close to the protected area of the dunes and “La Charca” (the tarn) of Maspalomas, are born.
